Position Summary

The AmeriCorps member will serve as the Violence Prevention Facilitator for elementary, middle, and high school students in community-based after-school programs, public schools, charter schools, and other child-focused venues, using designated curriculum. The Member will also engage and educate parents and adults in youth-serving venues to support prevention efforts. The Member will additionally raise awareness in community settings at health fairs and related community events and will support curriculum revision and the creation of new youth education outreach assets.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engaging in outreach and promoting health education topics and healthcare services
     
  • Collaborating with pre-existing patients and partner organizations
     
  • Identifying hosts and sponsors in various communities to form new partnerships
     
  • Facilitating interventions and classes about health issue prevention and management and overall wellness
     
  • Planning and preparing classes

Knowledge Required for the Position

Knowledge of AmeriCorps/Health Corps member requirements, Skill with Microsoft Office or other software for a variety of data processing operations involving a range of problem solving, record keeping, correspondence, and service tracking options.

Supervision

Member uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments following set procedures, independently, The supervisor assigns service activities, advises on changes in procedures, and is available for assistance when required

Review

The service activities are reviewed for accuracy through spot checks, through complaints from customers, and through observation of the member at service.

Guidelines

Detailed guidelines exist, including regulations and directives, handbooks, precedents, industry standards, and files of previous projects, Guidelines are generally applicable, but the member independently makes adaptations in dealing with problems and unusual situations

Complexity

The facts or conditions of the service position are clear cut, predictable, and apply directly to the assignment, The member must develop new techniques, methods, or approaches to complete service position assignments

Special Considerations

Unusual service hours, involving evenings, weekends, or long shifts, Personal vehicle required, Special safety regulations or precautions that must be observed, Criminal history check requirements beyond those required by National Health Corps
